Bruce A. Beesley, MD

Dr. Beesley

Dr. Beesley received his medical degree from SUNY at Syracuse in 1993. He then pursued an internship in internal medicine in the Primary Care Program at the University of Rochester, followed by a residency in neurology at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester. In 1997 he was awarded a fellowship in electromyography from the University of Rochester, which he served at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Bruce A. Beesley, M.D., joined Upstate Neurology Consultants in 1999. He is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. He has participated as an investigator in numerous clinical trials and his expertise is in the subspecialty of neuromuscular disease and EMG.

Richard B. Brooks, MD

Dr. Brooks

Dr. Brooks received his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in 1976. He did his internship at Albany Medical Center Hospital and his neurology residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Brooks joined Upstate Neurology Consultants in 2006 after working for Neurological Associates of Northeastern New York in Schenectady since 1980. He has served as Chief of the Neurology Department at both Ellis Hospital and St. Clare's Hospital during his time in Schenectady. Dr. Brooks also served as the President of the Schenectady County Medical Society in 1994. He is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN ) and is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Sleep Society, and the American Stroke Association. He has participated as an investigator many clinical trials as well.

Christopher S. Calder, MD, PhD

Dr. Calder

Dr. Calder received his medical degree and ChB degree from the University of Otago Medical School, New Zealand in 1978. He continued his schooling at the University and received his Ph.D. in 1983. He performed a residency in neurology at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester from 1982 to 1985. In 1985 he was awarded a fellowship in neurology from the University of Rochester, which he served at Rochester General Hospital. Dr. Calder is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN.)

Following the completion of his postgraduate training, Dr. Calder served as General Medical Registrar of the Auckland Hospital Board. He returned to the United States in 1988 and began private practice. In 1992 he founded Upstate Neurology Consultants, LLP, with Dr. James Storey.

Dr. Calder is clinical associate professor at Albany Medical College. In conjunction with his colleagues at Upstate Neurology, Dr. Calder has participated as an investigator in numerous clinical trials. Dr. Calder is a member of multiple medical societies, including the following:

  • American Academy of Neurology
  • American Epilepsy Society
  • American Society of Neurorehabilitation (certified member)
  • Alzheimer's Association (Board Member)
  • National Headache Foundation
  • Drug Information Association

David E. Hart, MD

Dr. Hart

Dr. Hart received his medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School in 1987. He then pursued an internship in internal medicine and a residency in neurology at the University of Maryland Hospital. In his last year of residency, he was selected chief resident in neurology. In 1991 he was awarded a fellowship in clinical neuroepidemiology from the National Institutes of Health. In 1992 he was awarded a fellowship in EMG/neuromuscular diseases from the University of Maryland Hospital.

David E. Hart, M.D., is chief of the division of neurology at Albany Memorial Hospital. He has been a member of the faculty at Albany Medical College since 1993, where he serves as clinical assistant professor of neurology. Dr. Hart is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Neurology with added qualifications in clinical neurophysiology. He is also a member of the following societies:

  • American Academy of Neurology, Geriatric Neurology Section
  • National Headache Foundation
  • Drug Information Association
  • Association of Clinical Research Professionals
  • American Board of Clinical Pharmacology
Dr. Hart has participated as an investigator in numerous clinical trials through Upstate Clinical Research and his expertise is in the subspecialty of neurophysiology and peripheral nerve disorders (including Guillain-Barre syndrome) and in Alzheimer's disease.

James R. Storey, MD

Dr. Storey

In 1992 Dr. Storey helped found Upstate Neurology Consultants. He is a board certified neurologist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, holds special qualifications in clinical neurophysiology, and has additional certification from the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Dr. Storey received his medical degree from University of Arkansas School for Medical Sciences in 1981. He then performed an internship in internal medicine as well as a residency in neurology at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD. During his final year of residency, he was made chief resident. In 1987 he was awarded a fellowship for further study of neuromuscular diseases, which he completed at Children's Hospital of San Francisco. Dr. Storey was also a member of the U.S. Navy, having attained the rank of Commander and received the Navy Commendation Medal in 1990.

In 1985 Dr. Storey was a teaching fellow in the Uniformed Services University. He was then training officer at the department of internal medicine, NH Oakland, CA. In 1988 he was appointed assistant professor of neurology at Uniformed Services University. In 1990 he became clinical assistant professor of neurology at Albany Medical College, a position he continues to retain.

Dr. Storey has served as assistant head of division of neurology at NH Oakland and later was the director of the EMG lab and head of neuromuscular disease at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He has served on the executive committee of medical staff at St. Peter's Hospital, and is a member of the Medicine/Family Practice Quality Assurance Committee at Albany Memorial Hospital, and a member of the appointments, promotion, and tenure committee at Albany Medical College. He is a fellow of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and he maintains memberships in several medical societies including the following:

  • American Academy of Neurology
  • American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine
  • American Academy of Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Association of Clinical Research Professionals
  • National Headache Foundation
  • Drug Information Association
  • Medical Society of the State of New York
  • American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine
He is the author of multiple publications as well as an investigator in numerous clinical trials with Upstate Clinical Research. His expertise is in the subspecialty of clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease, EEG, and EMG.

Stanley F. Penc, MD, PhD

Dr. Penc

Dr. Penc received a PhD in Physiology and Cell Biology from Albany Medical College in 1996. He then pursued a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital Boston. In 2000, Dr. Penc returned to Albany Medical College where he received a medical degree in 2004. Following completion of both an internship in internal medicine and residency in neurology at Albany Medical Center, he pursued a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse.

Dr. Penc is board-certified in adult neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), and has special qualifications in clinical neurophysiology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. Dr Penc has also authored several original research articles and scientific abstracts, and is actively involved as an investigator in clinical trials at Upstate Clinical Research.
